Lance Harskjold
20+ Years as an Engineering/Construction Specialist, with the U.S. Coast Guard
4 years as a carpenter in Texas prior to joining the Coast Guard.
BS degree in Environmental Marine Sciences.
Universal EPA Certification for air conditioning and refrigeration.
And a closet full of awards, medals, and citations awarded me for my abilities.
My Construction and Inspection careers started in 1985, working in Texas for a contractor who specialized in high end custom homes in Dallas and Fort Worth. After realizing how hot and unforgiving the Texas summers could be, I Joined the U. S. Coast Guard in 1989 to escape the infernal summers there; and entered into the Coast Guards Engineering Departments, where I received educations in all aspects of modern construction technologies; including residential, industrial and commercial structure design, inspection and repair processes and procedures. I have worked in the Pacific Northwest for 9 of the 20 years of service, as a Housing Officer in Newport, OR., a shop Supervisor for the repair division at the Navel Engineering Support Unit in Seattle WA., and as a Division Chief on one of the Coast Guards High Endurance Cutters, Other duty stations include California, Louisiana, Florida, Puerto Rico, and New Jersey; every job I have ever held, included performing inspections on every conceivable type of structure, from residential homes to massive air station facilities, and industrial complexes. I have Government Certificates as an Aluminum welder with both GMAW (gas metal arc welding, MIG) and GTAW (gas tungsten arc welding TIG), and all processes with steel; heavily trained in Brazing and soldering of copper, copper nickel, and monel; from 1/16th inch tubing to 12 inch pipe. All of these additional knowledge forms, on top of my residential construction and inspection experience might seem unnecessary, or even trivial; but all these real world experiences are just that; more experience, very few people have. When it comes to experience; more is always better.
I also received extensive civil, structural and mechanical engineering experience during my 20 years with the U.S. Coast Guard, all of which translates into a better inspector for your money.
